Chaske Spencer Throws Twilight Be The Shift Launch Event at Industry

Twilight Saga: Eclipse star, Chaske Spencer (the wolf pack's Sam Uley), with the non-profit United Global Shift organization, launched a new humanitarian campaign called "Be The Shift" on June 14, 2010 at the Industry club in West Hollywood.  Be The Shift's objective is to get people to create shifts in issues that matter to them on a personal basis.  Chaske, being a Native American from the Lakota Sioux tribe, chose to focus Be The Shift's first project on the devastating snowstorm that struck South Dakota's Lakota Sioux tribe.

The disaster struck the Lakota reservation on January 21, 2010, but was quickly buried on the back pages of the news by the tragedy in Haiti.  The Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation was already in critical shape before the snowstorm with a nearly 85% unemployment rate. 50,000 Native Americans were affected, with power lines down and the water system destroyed.  So far, there has been little government help, although Be The Shift's Public Service video spawned over 13,000 letter to Congress.

The Twilight cast party at Industry  launched  Be The Shift's year-long campaign to encourage people   to make a difference in their communities.  The event was well atttended with most of the Wolf Pack drawing the crowds to the festivities.  Other celebrities joined in the effort, making for a sensational night of fund raising.  Santa Monica's peakePRgroup helped organize the fun.

Great article and photos, Masha. I had read about the snowstorm on the reservation in South Dakota; I'd even sent a couple of donations to agencies there. Keep up the good work!
